Hoewel ze eigenlijk alleen de bas oppakte zodat het een familieband kon blijven, omarmde ze haar instrument. Met resultaat: in 2014 werd ze de eerste vrouwelijke winnaar ooit van de Blues Foundation\u2019s Blues Music Award voor Beste Instrumentalist, Bas. Nicole bracht in 2015 haar eerste solalbum <em>Wolf Den<\/em> uit en volgde dat op met Cry No More uit 2018; het laatste bereikte zelfs de eerste plaats van de Billboard Top Blues Albumlijst. Daarnaast bezorgde het haar in 2019 ook nog eens twee Blues Music Awards, drie Independent Blues Awards \u00e9n een Grammy-nominatie.
