De Amerikaanse bluesgitarist en zanger John Primer<\/b>, geboren in een familie van deelpachters in Mississippi, groeide op terwijl hij de plantagearbeiders blues hoorde maken: ze zongen op de velden, op zondag in de kerk, en speelden \u2018s avonds gitaar. Op 18-jarige leeftijd verhuisde hij naar Chicago en begon te spelen voor fooien op straathoeken en later in clubs. Hij stond op het podium met Junior Wells en sloot zich eind jaren zeventig aan bij Willie Dixons All-Star Band voordat hij in de jaren tachtig naar Muddy Waters overstapte en uiteindelijk speelde met Magic Slim and the Teardrops. Primer begon zijn solocarri\u00e8re in het volgende decennium en maakte indruk met zijn album The Real Deal<\/i> uit 1995. Ook nu op zijn tachtigste houdt hij de bluestradities nog steeds levend door te spelen en een nieuwe generatie les te geven en inspireren.
