Candice Ivory
Friday 29 March
Known as the Queen of Avant Soul, Candice Ivory released three albums with jazz, soul and R&B songs before submerging into the blues on her latest album When the Levee Breaks: The Music of Memphis Minnie (2023). Raised in Memphis, Ivory stems from a musical family: her great-uncle was the singer and guitarist of the Fieldstones, one of the premier blues bands from the 1970s to the 1990s. Ivory was raised in church and singing in the choir by age 11. She sang with a big band, founded a professional jazz trio and quintet at the age of 14, and had a regular gig on Beale Street with a band by 15. The release of her album coincided with the 50th anniversary of Memphis Minnie’s death. On the record, Ivory collaborates with guitarist and producer Charlie Hunter.© Copyright 2021 Curaçao International BlueSeas Festival. All rights reserved.
